Brief description of project:

Project overall objective will be achieved with three specific objectives:
1.      To endow Chain of Command of Civil Protection with a “social media based” Emergency Decision Support System (EDSS);
2.      To activate the participatory citizens` role as “active sensor” of emergencies (citizen journalism);
3.      To harmonize Croatian and Italian risk management current legislation.

As a result of pursuing the above targets, project E-CITIJENS will contribute to:
1.      Improved Coordination of Civil Protection risk management measures
2.      Increased involvement of citizens in natural and man-made disaster management

Both results will contribute to the Programme result indicator since they improve the coordination of the risk management measures among Institutions, Civil Protection and Citizens, affect the whole involved territories and kind of risks and improve the existing emergency measures. Project pursues to develop a cross border-wide platform to integrate emergency management data coming from multiple sources, including those provided by citizens through social media. This way information can be produced faster and allow citizens and civil protection services to effectively prevent and/or react against natural and man-made disasters. Focus will be given to the untapped potentials in adopting CBC (cross border cooperation) approach to stimulate the development of common tools and schemes for monitoring the risks and managing the emergencies. The main natural and man-made disasters this SO (specific objective) aims to tackle are floods, fire, oil spill and other marine hazards.

This project is co-financed by the EU under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in the framework of the Interreg V-A Italy-Croatia 2014-2020 CBC Programme, Priority Axis "Safety and Resilience.
